Żywiec

    Marcin Blachura makes folk instruments from Beskid Żywiecki. His products include Żywiec bagpipes and a range of pastoral instruments. He makes his instruments from fruit trees or black elder. He began in 2008. His instruments brought him 1st prize in Jan Kawulok and Feliks Jankowski Folk Instruments Making contest in 2012 and an award of distinction in the 5th Polish Folk Instrument Making contest of the Museum in Szydłowiec in 2016.  He’s a member of Żywiec Pipers’ Guild.

    The art of making and playing Żywiec bagpipes was inscribed on Poland’s National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017.
